PRIN 2009 project approved - ready to start up!

1 September 2011

We come back from the summer (quasi-)break with excellent news. Our project proposal 'Nonlinear dynamics of non-neutral complex plasmas', submitted to the Ministry of Educations, Universities and Research two-year project call 'PRIN 2009', has been approved. As for the PRIN 2007 project, once again the proposal had been submitted last year by our group jointly with a group from the University of Calabria. Massimiliano Romé will be the National Scientific Coordinator and Coordinator for the Research Unit here at the University of Milano. Dr. Fabio Lepreti will lead the Research Unit at the University of Calabria.

The project will officially start on 15 October 2011 and foresees numerical investigations on a dust-contaminated electron plasma in a Malmberg-Penning trap as well as the construction of part of the set-up to create and confine such a complex plasma. This is for us both a continuation and expansion of our work in trapped plasmas as well as a new research topic - deemed as a 'hitherto unexplored area of research' by the evaluation committee. Definitely a challenge, yet a great opportunity and source of excitement.

Promo shoot in our lab

17 May 2011

Today the guys from CTU (the multimedia service center of the University of Milano) came to our lab to shoot a promo for the university digital library. Prof. Francesco Ragusa, our department head, was interviewed about the importance of the digital library while having the ELTRAP set-up as a background. As users of this service we were pleased to help. And we were also pleased that the choice fell on our lab - it looks like it is the most telegenic around here!
