Roberto Pozzoli

Since 1970 he has carried out plasma physics research, mainly relevant to nuclear fusion and plasma theory, and, since 2000, also concerning small-scale experiments on basic plasma phenomena. With respect to this research line he led the INFM (National Institute for the Physics of Matter) Project "Chaos and coherent structures in non-neutral plasmas", and the installation of the Malmberg-Penning trap ELTRAP at the Physics Department of the University of Milano, devoted to the study of electron plasmas. Successively he led INFN (National Institute of Nuclear Physics) experiments on the study of low-energy electron beams.

He spent different periods abroad in the framework of international projects on controlled fusion research, in particular at MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology), Cambridge, USA and Budker Institute of Nuclear Physics, Novosibirsk, Russia.

He was the Director of the Physics Department during the 2004-2007 term.
